It felt so good to compete again in Arizona on the Cactus Tour. My first event was at Red Mountain Ranch, a Pete Dye design. Beautiful, but a bit of a Mickey Mouse golf course. Not my favorite, sorry Red Mountain! I enjoyed competing and playing with fellow Big Break Atlantis contestant, Shannon Fish. I improved each day, which is always a positive. It was one of those tournaments where you feel like you played better than your score shows. We all have them. I was happy to dust the rust off and walk away with a third place finish.
My second event was two weeks later on the Cactus Tour played at Wigwam Red. Sunday was the pro-am which was so much fun. I played with a great group of gentlemen, and we took 2nd in the scramble. The first day of the tournament was extremely windy. Some of the strongest wind I have ever played in. Thanks to playing college at The University of San Francisco I learned how to play well in the wind. I shot 73 to tie two others for the lead. Day two, I struggled around the greens, resulting in a disappointing 78, not like me! I did not shoot myself out of it though. The last day I knew I needed to fire a solid under par round, but the ball would not drop into the hole!! I hit 15 greens and only had one birdie. I finished with a 74. After my round, it was brought to my attention that I had two extra golf clubs in my golf cart. This I knew, but I assumed that because they were not in my bag, they would not be deemed as usable equipment. I was wrong. Because we were taking golf carts, anything that is in the golf cart is considered usable equipment. Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way and accept a four stroke penalty leaving me with an official score of 78. That was hard to swallow. If you are ever in any doubt of a ruling never assume, ALWAYS ask!
The Big Break Atlantis train is starting to take off! I am so excited for the show to air and to share my experience with everyone. It was a lot of fun, but also very intense and emotional…there was a lot on the line. On golfchannel.com you can find an extended trailer, our video bios, my personal bio, and a sneak peak of the first episode.
